Winter break schedules

As the UD semester ends, the days and hours of operations shift for student health, library, bookstore, transportation and more

With limited exceptions, University of Delaware offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 22, and will reopen on Friday, Jan. 2. UD facilities will move to an adjusted schedule, outlined below.

For students attending Winter Session, residence halls will reopen for check-in from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, and dinner that night is the first meal scheduled to be served in UD dining halls. Winter Session classes will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.

UD Student Health and Wellbeing (Warner Hall and Laurel Hall)

Student Wellness and Health Promotion, the Center for Counseling and Student Development and Student Health Services share the following holiday hours. Visit the Student Health and Wellbeing website for more detailed information.

The following services operate 24 hours a day, all year long, even when the University is closed. The following are available to students at no cost.

Dining Services

The last meal in dining halls of the fall 2025 semester will be dinner on Monday, Dec. 15. All locations will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 16, through Thursday, Jan. 1. The first meal of UD’s Winter Session will be dinner served on Friday, Jan. 2. For the most updated hours, see the Dining Services website

University Student Centers (Perkins and Trabant)

  • Dec. 16–19: 7 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Dec. 20–21: closed

  • Dec. 22–23: 7 a.m.–5 p.m.

  • Dec. 24–Jan. 1, 2026: closed

  • Jan. 2–30 

    • Monday - Friday: 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. 

    • Saturday/Sunday: closed

    • Exceptions: Monday, Jan. 19 (Martin Luther King Holiday): 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Development and Alumni Relations

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations, which can be reached at 302-831-4333, will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, and Wednesday, Dec. 31. With the end of the year rapidly approaching, donors can help grow and expand the opportunities for current and future students by making a gift to support UD’s people, programs and places. Every donor and every gift makes a profound impact on the University community.

Year-end contributions may be made:

  • Online – Credit card gifts must be received by Wednesday, Dec. 31, for a calendar year 2025 charge

  • By sending a check to 83 East Main St., 3rd floor, Newark, DE 19716

  • By calling 302-831-4333

Checks and envelopes must be dated/postmarked no later than Wednesday, Dec. 31, for the contribution to process in calendar year 2025. All UD departments and units should frequently check mail for contributions and follow the standard process for providing the year-end gifts to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

Library, Museums and Press

Morris Library will be open Monday, Dec. 15, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 16, to Friday, Dec. 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. While Morris Library, the branch libraries and the gallery spaces will be closed Saturday, Dec. 20, through Thursday, Jan. 1, many online resources are accessible 24/7 at library.udel.edu. For the most up-to-date hours, visit library.udel.edu/hours.

Transportation Services Holiday Bus Schedule

There will be no University bus service from Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Thursday, Jan. 1. Winter Session buses will begin on Friday, Jan. 2. Please refer to the Transportation website and bus tracking app for more information.

Parking Services

From Monday, Dec. 15, through Tuesday, Dec. 23, while classes are not in session and exams are not being held, students with Red or Resident permits may park in Gray lots. From Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, weekend parking rules will be in effect during the holiday break when the University is closed. Normal parking regulations resume on Friday, Jan. 2.

Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore

The Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore, 83 East Main St., has announced its hours for the remainder of 2025 and early 2026.

Bookstore hours will be:

  • Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 16-20: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec, 21: closed

  • Monday through Wednesday, Dec, 22-24: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 25-28: closed

  • Monday through Wednesday, Dec, 29-31: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • Thursday, Jan. 1: closed

  • Friday, Jan. 2: Winter Session hours begin; Winter Session hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Sundays.

Little Bob Recreation

The Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob) hours for the end of the semester and winter break will be as follows:

  • Monday, Dec. 15: Closing at 9 p.m.

  • Tuesday-Friday, Dec. 16-19: Open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 20-Thursday, Jan. 1: Closed

  • Thursday, Jan. 2: Winter hours begin

Fred Rust Ice Arena

Public skating is available during winter, including the academic break at UD’s Fred Rust Ice Arena. Please visit the website for information about scheduling birthday party tables and renting skates.

  • Saturday, Dec. 20: 1-3 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 21: 1-3 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 24: 1-4 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 26, to Tuesday, Dec. 30: 1-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 31, to Friday, Jan. 2: 1-4 p.m.

  • Saturdays and Sundays, Jan. 3 to March 8: 1-3 p.m.

University Printing

University Printing is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 19, when it will close for the winter break. The facility will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, with regular hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The email address universityprinting@udel.edu will be monitored continuously during the holiday break if there are any pressing questions or concerns. Schedule a department tour now to secure a slot in January for a detailed demonstration of our services or to request a sample box.

UDairy Creamery

The flagship location is open through Dec. 23 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., will close from Dec. 24 through Jan. 4, and reopens Monday, Jan. 5, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. UDairy Creamery Café is open Monday to Friday through Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Café will close from Dec. 21 through Jan. 4. It will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Jan. 5.
