Join CTAL's Course Design Institute: June 2-5

Join colleagues from across UD and design or redesign an upcoming course

Editor's note: This article has been updated with correct dates.

Registration is now open for CTAL’s flagship program: Course Design Institute (CDI). Since 2016, over 300 faculty have joined us for 3 1/2 days of intensive and collaborative work in the service of designing or revising a UD course. CDI provides instructors with a rare luxury: the opportunity to focus on just one thing, as part of a community, over several engaging days.

Between June 2-5, in person in Newark, you’ll create:

  • New or revised student learning outcomes (SLOs) that are clear, measurable and meaningful for your course
  • A major assignment/exam that emerges from those SLOs
  • A plan for including learning activities that prepare students for your major assignment or exam
  • An inclusive syllabus based on the UD Syllabus template

A previous participant sums up their experience with CDI this way: “Your level of expertise and professionalism is outstanding. I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information and you set a pace that allowed me to settle in and get a lot of work done. I feel ready to refine my course and am more confident in my ability to teach at the level that UD expects. Thank you for this inspiring and engaging experience.”

Our program runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lunch served on the first three days. All instructors of record are welcome to attend; graduate students must be listed as an instructor of record for a course during the 2025-2026 academic year in order to register.
