State fire marshal investigates dumpster fire on campus
The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that occurred in a trash dumpster located behind Smyth Hall on the University of Delaware campus around 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 17.
Deputy fire mashals were called to the scene and determined that the fire was intentionally set. Fire damage, which was limited to the contents of the container, was estimated at $500.
A criminal investigation is now underway by the fire marshal’s office and University of Delaware Police.

Water pellet incident
Also on May 17, Newark Police responded to a report just before 5 p.m. of an individual being shot at with a water pellet gun in the area of New London Road and East Cleveland Avenue in Newark. No injuries were reported.
