UD Police investigate report of minor arson incident in residence hall

Editor's note: May 10, 2023. After a UD Police investigation, the State Fire Marshall has arrested a UD freshman who lived in the residence hall for this incident. The student was charged with one count of reckless burning, arraigned by JP Court 2 and released on his own recognizance. UD Police referred him to UD’s Community Standards and Conflict Resolution office, and he has been banned from UD residence halls.

University of Delaware Police are investigating the report of an arson early Friday, May 5, in South Academy Residence Hall that caused minor damage to door signs.

While there were no injuries and only minor damage, such incidents have the potential to become dangerous, and this case is being investigated thoroughly with assistance from Residence Life staff. Responsible parties will be referred to Community Stands and Conflict Resolution and may also face criminal charges. Anyone with information is asked to contact UD Police.

Members of the University community are reminded to be vigilant: If you see something, say something. Call 911 to report suspicious activity.
