Microbiome and therapies for children event April 4

Open to all UD students, faculty

The scientist known as the “father of the microbiome” will discuss developing microbiome-directed therapeutics for treating childhood undernutrition at the 2023 Arnold Clark lecture hosted by the University of Delaware’s Department of Biological Sciences on Tuesday, April 4 from 4-5 p.m. in room 115 of Purnell Hall.

Jeffrey Gordon of Washington University in St. Louis is credited with discovering the connection between the microbial colonies in the human gut and the role they play in facilitating healthy growth and development when the communities work together or in causing disease when the communities do not work together.

He will speak about his current research, which examines the link between the microbiome and childhood undernutrition, and the challenges and opportunities in creating microbiota-directed therapies for children.

The event is open to all UD students, staff and faculty. Registration is required.
