Community invited to visit OLLI locations in Dover, Lewes, Ocean View, Wilmington
The community is invited to learn more about the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) by attending an open house in Dover (Aug. 10), Lewes (Aug. 7), Ocean View (Aug. 9) or Wilmington (Aug. 8).
As a volunteer-driven learning cooperative for adults age 50-plus, UD OLLI has nearly 2,000 active members and holds classes throughout Delaware and online, featuring a variety of learning and social opportunities with no exams or grades.
Fall classes start Sept. 5, with a small sampling of the nearly 300 courses to include:
• Art — painting, woodworking, photography, basket making, ikebana
• General interest — genealogy, current events, investing, smartphone apps
• History — Civil War, American colleges, racism, classic war films, Henry VIII, Helen Keller
• Languages — French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin
• Literature — Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, poetry, book clubs, writing
• Music ensembles — rock band, orchestra, chorus, guitar
• Science and nature — birding, environment, electric vehicles
• Wellness — heart health, yoga, tai chi, folk dance, Pacific Island dance, meditation
The Aug. 7-10 open houses feature classroom tours and refreshments, with opportunities to meet volunteers and fellow OLLI participants, and pick up a course catalog. In-person registration will be available.
OLLI registration consists of one flat $260 membership fee for the fall semester, which includes unlimited classes and activities at all UD OLLI locations and online. Delaware residence or prior OLLI membership is not required, and need-based financial assistance is available.
For details, including a full course listing, visit the OLLI website.
