Newark Police investigate an armed carjacking
Newark Police said in a press release that the department is investigating a report of an armed carjacking.
At about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 3, Newark Police said its officers responded to the area of Library Avenue and Wyoming Road, just east of the University of Delaware’s main campus. There, the victim reported that a black Dodge SUV pulled in front of his vehicle before stopping abruptly. The victim’s vehicle struck the Dodge. When the victim exited his vehicle to inspect for damage, the suspect — a passenger in the Dodge — pointed a handgun and ordered the victim away from the vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
The victim has no known connection to the University. The victim’s vehicle has since been recovered.
Newark Police are investigating the incident and searching for the male suspect, who was wearing a light green shirt and a mask. Information can be reported to Sgt. J. Skinner at (302) 366-7100 x. 3135 or jskinner@newark.de.us, or through Newark Police’s tips page.
