Dear UD Community,

The devastation and human suffering caused by the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria have been heartbreaking for all of us to witness. The loss of life is staggering. My thoughts, and those of the entire University of Delaware, are with those members of our community who have family members or loved ones in the region.

Soon after the earthquake hit, UD’s Center for Global Programs and Services reached out to our affected international students and scholars to provide support and resources to help them cope with this tragedy. The Center for Counseling and Student Development also offers resources to anyone seeking support; they can be reached at (302) 831-2141.

It is also inspiring to see how the UD family comes together during such difficult times. The Turkish American Student Association at UD is collecting donations to help those affected by the earthquakes. Information about that effort is below.

TO HELP: The Turkish American Student Association at UD is collecting supplies and money to help victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Donations may be dropped off in Room 015H in Perkins Student Center from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, so they can be delivered to the Turkish Embassy for shipment on Friday. Items needed:

• Baby supplies (food, formula, diapers, wipes)
• Over-the-counter medications for flu, cold and pain (child/adult)
• Non-perishable food
• Flashlights, batteries, tents, blankets, sleeping bags, pocket warmers
• Winter clothing, especially for children

Monetary donations may also be made to the American Turkish Association of Washington, D.C., or other reputable charities.
