University of Delaware Athletics Department will tour the state from June 11-13

The University of Delaware Athletics Department, in partnership with several University  departments, announced the inaugural 302 Tour. From June 11-13, UD student-athletes, coaches and other leaders will embark on a three-day, state-wide trip across Delaware where they will have the opportunity to engage with local communities as well as business and government leaders.

“The University shares a deep connection to the state’s past, present and future, and the 302 Tour will  help us celebrate and strengthen that bond,” President Dennis Assanis said. “During these three days in June, our student-athletes and coaches will have a unique opportunity to enhance their Delaware experience and appreciation for our great state. We look forward to engaging with the community members and businesses that want to learn more about the University.”

On the morning of Sunday, June 11, the busload of Blue Hens will begin the 302 Tour at the second annual Chicken Chase 5K in Dewey Beach. To register for the race, and subsequent afterparty at the Starboard, visit the event website. Later that afternoon, the public is welcome to meet the tour at Delaware Seashore State Park for the Blue Hen Beach Bash for a beach party with games, giveaways and more.

The tour will make its way to Dover on Monday, June 12 where the Blue Hens will have another action-packed day. The morning will start with a visit to Delaware Legislative Hall to meet local government leaders before the coaches and student-athletes head to Dover Air Force Base for a visit and tour. On Monday evening, the Blue Hens will host a pool party at Killens Pond Water Park.

The final day of the trip will see the tour travel to New Castle County on Tuesday, June 13, when the coaches and student-athletes will have service project opportunities with multiple partners such as the Food Bank of Delaware, Boys & Girls Club and REACH Riverside Warehouse. The group will make its way to the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington where they will spend the afternoon learning about the Harriet Tubman Trail.

The 302 Tour will conclude at the Wilmington Blue Rocks game on June 13. The game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. against Jersey Shore at Frawley Stadium.

“This is such an exciting time for the University of Delaware and Delaware Athletics,” said Chrissi Rawak, director of athletics, community and campus recreation. “I am extremely grateful to the  sponsors and community members who are supporting the 302 Tour. These three days will provide a  great opportunity to continue our mission to learn from and engage with those that make Delaware such a  great state. I can’t wait to grow our Blue Hen family and see our great fans out at the various stops.”

The 302 Tour will not be possible without the support of multiple sponsors that include WSFS Bank, Visit  Delaware, The Starboard, Avelo Airlines, Wilmington Airport and the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA).
