Douglass F. Taber, professor emeritus of chemistry and biochemistry, was the plenary lecturer at the Egyptian Fifth International Conference in Chemistry, held Oct. 25-28, 2022, in Marsa Alam, Egypt.
Trevor A. Dawes, vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian, as a commissioner with the Japan U.S. Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and a panelist with the United States - Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON), traveled to Fukuoka and Tokyo, Japan, for the annual CULCON symposium and JUSFC briefings from Oct. 23-26, 2022. During the visit, Dawes, a member of the CULCON Ad Hoc Committee, co-presented on the final report and recommendations of the committee on the importance of information sharing and access in the digital age. The Ad Hoc Committee -- and the commission -- believe that access to information is one of the important components of building and maintaining effective people-to-people relationships between our two countries. The commissioners met with several dignitaries, including the current U.S. ambassador to Japan and the Japanese minister of foreign affairs. They also visited the campus of Tsuda University, the Kyushu National Museum and the Tōyō Bunko Museum (The Oriental Library).
