Commencement 2022: What you need to know

Advice on when to arrive and what you can bring

The University of Delaware will hold its Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2022 starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, in Delaware Stadium.

The University congratulates all the graduates and welcomes their family and friends to campus to celebrate their accomplishments.

This year’s University-wide ceremony will include additional security procedures. United States President (and Blue Hen) Joe Biden will be the Commencement speaker, and his inclusion requires safety measures that go beyond UD's typical protocols.

Please be aware that graduates and their guests will need to arrive early and must pass through a security screening including metal detectors. In addition, graduates and guests cannot bring bags or personal items inside Delaware Stadium. (Phones and regalia are permitted.)

In order to guarantee admittance, everyone should plan to arrive no later than 7 a.m. to be inside Delaware Stadium by the final access time of 8 a.m. Gates open at 6 a.m.

Traffic on I-95 is expected to be very heavy that morning. Those coming to Newark for the festivities should factor in additional travel time or consider alternative routes.

Security personnel will be at each entrance to Delaware Stadium to conduct security screenings.

Travel and Parking

As mentioned above, traffic is expected to be very heavy that morning. No shuttles will be running from central campus. Please drive or use a rideshare, such as Lyft.

When arriving, expect to be directed to the closest parking spot. Shuttles will transport guests from far parking lots, and golf carts will be available for those who need assistance.

Tickets

All attendees (including graduates) must have a ticket to attend. Tickets will not be available at the door. Graduates who have not received their initial allotment of tickets should contact commencement@udel.edu.

Delaware Stadium has a no re-entry policy. Once your ticket is scanned, you will not be able to re-enter if you leave the stadium.
