Witnesses to Terror: Regional Perspectives on the Ukrainian War

Panel discussion with European scholars set March 14

"Witnesses to Terror: Regional Perspectives on the Ukrainian War" will be the subject of a virtual University of Delaware panel discussion at 12:30 p.m., Monday, March 14.

Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has triggered one of the biggest global crises in a generation. A mass exodus of refugees is fleeing westward, and Europeans face the daunting challenge of conflict on their nations’ borders. This virtual event brings together scholars living in the region to discuss the crisis from their perspectives and explore how their home countries are managing the chaos.

Panel participants:

  • Przemysław Gasztold is an assistant professor at War Studies University in Warsaw, Department of Security Threats, and a research fellow at the Historic Research Office of the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw.
  • Iskren Ivanov is a senior lecturer of U.S./Russia foreign policy at the Olmsted Scholar Program, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
  • Olesea Taranu is an academic from Romania born in the Soviet Moldavian Republic where she witnessed firsthand the consequences of a Russian military operation in the short but intense war in Transnistria.

An audience Q&A will follow.
