Women’s and men’s basketball teams ruling the court
As we enter the final weeks of regular-season play, the University of Delaware women’s and men’s basketball teams are celebrating thrilling seasons.
Both teams, with a combined 31 wins, were voted most likely to win the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. In current rankings, the women’s team is tied for first while the men are tied for fourth.
In a recent video, UD Athletic Director Chrissi Rawak discussed the electifying performances of both teams this season.
For the women’s team, Jasmine Dickey has had an exceptional season; she is No. 2 in the nation in scoring and second in UD’s record book for career points scored. She’s in the 1,000-point club along with her teammate, Ty Battle, who is Top 10 in the nation in double-doubles. Dickey recently received national recognition by ESPN and other outlets for scoring 52 points in the Blue Hens’ victory on Feb. 4.
Battle and Dickey are in good company with Kevin Anderson and Ryan Allen on the men’s basketball team who are also in the 1,000-point club. Allen is third in UD’s record book for career points scored and is tied for first in career games played at 124.
Both teams have their sights set on their CAA tournaments in March. The men will play in Washington, D.C., March 5-8 while the women play in Philadelphia from March 10-13.
There are home opportunities left before the postseason tournament begins to see both teams in action at The Bob. Ticket details are available online.
