As the UD semester nears end, the days and hours of operations shift for student health, library, bookstore, UDairy Creamery and more

The University of Delaware’s fall semester of 2022 has been successful on many levels, but the academic pursuit and service work will pause, if only slightly, during the winter break. 

Winter break for students will begin after the conclusion of final examinations, on Friday, Dec. 16. On that day, dinner will be the last meal provided by UD Dining Services and residence halls will close at 10 p.m.

With limited exceptions, University offices will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3. UD facilities will move to an adjusted schedule, outlined below.

For students attending Winter Session, residence halls will reopen for check-in from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, and dinner that night is the first meal scheduled to be served in UD dining halls. Winter Session classes will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

UD Student Health Services

Student Health Services (SHS) in Laurel Hall is open by appointment only from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Dec. 13 through Thursday, Dec. 22. SHS will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Jan. 2, returning to normal hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Medical advice is available 24/7 by calling 800-681-3957.

The Student Health Services website has information about other medical, mental health and counseling services in the Newark area or online.

Wellbeing Center at Warner Hall

The Wellbeing Center at Warner Hall will be open 8 a.m to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 16. The center will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17-18. In the subsequent weeks, the schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, Dec. 19 to Thursday, Dec. 22: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 23: 8 a.m. to noon.

  • Saturday, Dec. 24 through Monday, Jan. 2: Closed

  • Weekdays from Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Feb. 3: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed on Saturdays and Sundays).

  • Weekdays, starting Monday, Feb. 6: 8 a.m to 10 p.m.

24/7 virtual mental health care through TimelyCare

All students enrolled at UD (including all part-time, professional, graduate and undergraduate students) now have access to 24/7 virtual mental health care through TimelyCare. The service is completely free for students. Features include on-demand and scheduled appointments with licensed counselors. In most cases, students will be connected with a professional within five minutes of initiating a request for 24/7 support or students can browse providers and make a scheduled appointment with their chosen counselor. Center for Counseling and Student Development (CCSD)

  • Monday, Dec. 19: 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Office closed 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 20 to Thursday, Dec. 22: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 23: 8:30 a.m. to noon

  • Office reopens on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Dining Services

The last meal of the fall semester, served at the Pencader and Caesar Rodney Dining Halls, will be dinner on Friday Dec. 16. (The Russell dining location will have closed on Dec. 14). All locations will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 17, through Sunday, Jan. 1. The first meal of UD’s Winter Session will be dinner served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, at both the Pencader and Russell dining locations. University Student Centers (Perkins and Trabant)

  • Tuesday, Dec. 13, to Thursday, Dec. 15: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. for late night studying; Esports and Hen Zone: Noon to 11:45 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 16: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m; Esports and Hen Zone: Noon to 9 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 17: Closed

  • Sunday, Dec. 18: Closed

  • Monday, Dec. 19, to Thursday, Dec. 22: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 23: 7 a.m. to noon

(Esports and Hen Zone are closed from Saturday, Dec. 17, through Tuesday, Jan. 3.)

Development and Alumni Relations

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations, which can be reached at 302-831-4333, will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Dec. 30.

Checks and envelopes must be dated/postmarked no later than Saturday, Dec. 31, for the contribution to process in calendar year 2022. All UD departments and units should be sure to frequently check mail for contributions and follow the normal process for providing the year-end gifts to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

Library, Museums and Press

Morris Library will be open Tuesday, Dec. 13, through Thursday, Dec. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. On Friday, Dec. 16, the Library will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. From Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, the Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. While Morris Library as well as the branch libraries and gallery spaces will be closed Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 2, many online resources are accessible 24/7 at library.udel.edu. For the most update-to-date hours, visit library.udel.edu/hours.

Transportation Services Holiday Bus Schedule

UD bus service will operate normally through Friday, Dec. 16. There will be no weekend UD bus service on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec 18. From Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, the UD buses will operate according to the limited holiday schedule. Additionally, from Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Jan. 2, there will be no University bus service. Winter Session buses will begin Tuesday, Jan. 3. Please refer to the Transportation website for more information.

Parking Services

For the week of final exams (Dec. 9-16), Parking Services will not charge for parking in Lot 41, the Visitors Center lot on South College Avenue, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. only. Anyone parking in Lot 41 outside those hours must pay using the kiosks or through the app. From Monday, Dec. 19, through Thursday, Dec. 22, while classes are not in session and exams are not being held, students with Red or Resident permits may park in Gray lots. From Dec. 24, through Jan. 1, 2023, weekend parking rules will be in effect during the holiday break when the University is closed. Normal parking regulations resume Monday, Jan. 2, 2023.

To obtain the best price, Winter Session parking permits will be available for sale online beginning Jan. 1, and spring semester permits will be available online beginning Feb. 1.

UDairy Creamery

The UDairy Creamery Flagship location (535 South College Ave.) will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 23. The flagship location will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, until reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3. UDairy treats will be available at the UD men’s and women’s basketball games during winter break at the Bob Carpenter Center. Check bluehens.com to find the schedule and buy tickets. Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore

The Barnes and Noble UD Bookstore is located at 83 East Main St., Newark. The holiday schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 13-17: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 18: Noon to 6 p.m.

  • Monday, Dec. 19: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (early closing for a store holiday event)

  • Tuesday through Friday, Dec. 20-23: 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 21: Faculty and Staff Appreciation sale (ID required).

  • Saturday, Dec. 24: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Sunday and Monday, Dec. 25-26: Closed

  • Tuesday through Friday, Dec. 27-30: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 31: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Sunday, Jan. 1: Closed

  • Monday, Jan. 2: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Located inside the Bookstore building, the UDairy Creamery Café will be open the same hours as the Bookstore through Friday, Dec. 23. The café will be closed from Saturday, Dec. 24, until reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3

Little Bob Recreation

The Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob) hours for the end of the semester and winter break will be as follows:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 13, to Friday, Dec. 16: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 17-18: Closed

  • Monday, Dec. 19, to Wednesday, Dec. 21: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Thursday, Dec. 22: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Jan. 2: Closed

  • Tuesday, Jan. 3: Regular hours resume, starting at 6 a.m.

Fred Rust Ice Arena

Public skating is available during winter, including the academic break at UD’s Fred Rust Ice Arena. For information about scheduling birthday party tables and renting skates, please visit the website.

  • Saturday, Dec. 17: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 18: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Saturday, Dec. 24: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 25: Closed

  • Monday, Dec. 26: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 27: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 28: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

For the holiday public skating sessions only, UD faculty or staff will receive a free skate rental if they present their UD staff card.

University Printing

University Printing is open through Dec. 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing at 2 p.m. on Dec. 23 for the holiday break. The facility will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, with regular hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The email address — mailto:universityprinting@udel.edu  — will be monitored continuously during the holiday break if there are any pressing questions or concerns. In January, University Printing is installing new printers that will increase speeds and quality as well as add the ability to print gold, silver, white and clear toners.
