Saturday Symposium — Creating Comedy: The REP’s Yeah Baby

A day exploring the nature of comedy and meeting REP actors, co-directors and the writer of the play

The University of Delaware's College of Arts and Sciences invites the community to a Saturday Symposium program, Creating Comedy: The REP’s Yeah Baby, on Saturday, April 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The program is the work of UD's Resident Ensemble Players (REP).

The day provides a peek into theatre production and what it takes to bring a world premiere to the stage. Speakers will explore theories of comedy and what goes into making a comedy funny. Playwright Theresa Rebeck, author and co-director of Yeah Baby will be at the prologue, which is part of the symposium, providing a rare chance for the audience to hear from the most produced female playwright on Broadway. The day finishes with a matinee of the UD REP production of Yeah Baby, a hilarious, laugh-out-loud love letter to the theatre, written specially for the REP by Theresa Rebeck.

Speakers include:
- Bernard McKenna, associate professor, English: Comic Theories and Comic Performance in Yeah Baby.
- Steve Tague, professor, theatre, and Elizabeth Heflin, adjunct professor, with both actors appearing in Yeah Baby, will speak on their experience in rehearsing and performing in a world premiere production and working directly with the playwright on a new comedy.
- Theresa Rebeck, acclaimed playwright and co-director of Yeah Baby Sandy Robbins, producing artistic director, Resident Ensemble Players, co-director of Yeah Baby: prologue to the play.

Registration is required and is available at http://www.udel.edu/009487. The registration deadline is April 26. For questions, email Saturday-Symposium@udel.edu or call 302-831-4130.
