Celebrate Earth Week at UD

Events from environmental movie screenings to invasive species removal

This week, ending with Earth Day on Friday, there are many opportunities to make a difference for the environment, whether you are interested in learning through movies and speakers or prefer to take action personally through swapping clothes to refresh your wardrobe and fight fast fashion.

Organized by the Sustainability Council, the Delaware Environmental Institute, the Gerard J. Mangone Climate Change Science and Policy Hub, and many environmentally focused student groups, Earth Week kicks off with an Environmental Movie Fest, screening environmentally themed movies in the Trabant Theatre at 7 p.m., Monday, April 18, and Wednesday, April 20. Monday's movie is  Youth V. Gov about the ground-breaking lawsuit filed by youth climate activists against the U.S. government. On Wednesday, participants will watch Riverblue, which investigates the pollution caused by the fashion industry. Both movies will be followed by panel discussions featuring UD students and faculty.

Also through Wednesday, students, faculty, staff and community members can exchange up to 10 pieces of gently used clothing for tickets to shop at the Earth Day Clothing Swap, to be held from noon to 3 p.m. in Trabant 209/211 on Friday, April 22. Learn how to participate at https://sites.google.com/udel.edu/fash-kcobb-lab/climate-hub-swap-swish.

In addition to the Clothing Swap, Earth Day will feature an involvement fair with environmental groups, UDairy Creamery's Moo Mobile, music, an electric vehicle display and a raffle, all on the North Green, starting at noon. The afternoon will end with speakers including students, former Lenape Indian Tribe Chief Dennis Coker, Newark Council member Corinth Ford, State Representative Debra Heffernan and sustainable fashion faculty member Kelly Cobb.
