DENIN Scholars applications open

Applications are for the academic year Environmental Scholars Program

Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) Environmental Scholars research internship program. Applications can be submitted via an online form and the deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8.

This year, the program has five exciting research opportunities available. In addition, to completing an independent research project, interns participate in skill-building seminars on such topics as attending graduate school, research ethics and making a research presentation. DENIN Environmental Scholars will present their work via a virtual poster presentation at an end-of-the-year symposium, held in May. Interns also receive a stipend of $4,000.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors with an interest in climate, sea level rise, water quality, land use, soil contamination and remediation, environmental sensing and monitoring, economics, ethics, or environmental policy are eligible to participate. DENIN highly encourages individuals historically unrepresented in STEM, including race/ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic, status, veterans, or first generation college to apply.

DENIN Environmental Scholars are funded through the National Science Foundation's Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, or EPSCoR. Since 2004 Delaware EPSCoR has funded more than 500 undergraduate research internships at the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Wesley College and Delaware Technical Community College.
