Presentations

Thomas Kaminski, professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, was a featured speaker at Manchester United's annual (virtual) sports medicine conference, this year, focusing on Medical and Scientific Challenges in Women's Football. Kaminski, who's a leading expert in heading in soccer, spoke about the greater risk for concussion in female players and stressed the need for proper techniques taught at a young age to minimize concussion risk.

Rudi Matthee, John and Dorothy Munroe Distinguished Professor of History, was interviewed by Roqe Media (Toronto, Canada) on “The Rise of Opium,” as part of their “Modern History of Iran” series, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVXC3jVf7HY.

Publications

Suzanne L. Burton, associate dean for the arts in the College of Arts & Sciences, director of the Partnership for Arts and Culture and professor of music education has published a new book: Engaging Musical Practices: A Sourcebook for Middle School General Music (second edition). Burton, conceptualizer and editor of the Engaging Musical Practices series has included new, innovative and timely chapters by authors who are experts at facilitating active music making with adolescents. Burton’s chapter concentrates on “Early Keyboard Experiences to Inspire Independent Musicianship.” The 2nd edition joins the other books in the series on early childhood, elementary general and instrumental music teaching and learning.

Aimee D. Pearsall, Instructor in music education in the School of Music, has published a book chapter entitled "Bridging Practices: Infusing General Music into the Choral Classroom." This chapter is included in the second edition of  Engaging Musical Practices: A Sourcebook for Middle School General Music, edited by Suzanne L. Burton, associate dean of the arts in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Honors

Lerner College’s Aramark Chaired Professor and Deputy Dean Sheryl Klinereceived the EuroCHRIE 2021 Best Conference Poster Award for her research entitled “Mentorship and Sponsorship in the Hospitality Industry: A Woman’s View From The Top.” It was coauthored with Carole Sox, assistant professor and director of the hospitality, tourism and event management program, Columbia College.

Poetry by Alexander Selimov, professor of languages, literatures and cultures, received an honorable mention at the Eurasian/International Festival of Poetry, held Nov. 13, 2021, in Istanbul. He is professor of Spanish and the Universal Ambassador of Culture, Bolivia/UNESCO. He is also the recipient of the Victoria Urbano Honorable Mention award (Chicago 2018), and the silver medal for creative writing at LIFFT literary festival (Baku, Azerbaijan, 2019).

Xiang Gao, Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music and artistic director of the Master Players Concert Series, has been named as one of Musical America’s “2021 Top 30 Professionals of the Year.” Musical America, an industry leader in international performing arts information and news, recently published the special report “The Pandemic: Meeting the Moment,” asking members of the worldwide performing arts industry to weigh in on the question: Who rose to the challenge of the pandemic? The 30 individuals named, all of whom are distinguished artists, administrators and educators, were chosen for their creativity, leadership and hard work in helping sustain the performing arts in this difficult time.    

A team from University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics placed 10th on the North America Leaderboard in the Bloomberg Trading Challenge. Led by Lerner undergraduate finance major Eric Kachan ’22, the team included finance major Joseph Donnelly ’22, and M.S. Business Analytics and Information Management student Justin Ehly ‘24. Ehly earned an undergraduate dual degree in finance and management information systems from UD in 2021. They represented UD among the 488 teams from around the world comprising nearly 3,000 people who entered 14,445 trades over seven intense weeks.

Lynn Evans was selected as a 2021 Women in Business Honoree by Delaware Today Magazine.

Lynn Evans, director of the Women’s Leadership Initiative at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, was selected as a 2021 Women in Business Honoree by Delaware Today Magazine. Evans joins the newest class of 40 women who are driving business in Delaware. As director, she supports WLI’s mission of advancing gender equity from the classroom to the boardroom through executive leadership education, student programming and community events. Prior to joining the UD, Evans was managing director and head of Americas Institutional and Global Liquidity Client Service for J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Evans has over 35 years of experience working for top-tier global financial organizations. Her expertise includes business strategy, client experience, talent management and institutional sales. Evans joins WLI Co-founders and UD Professors Wendy Smith and Amanda Bullough who were selected Women in Business Honorees in 2019.
