Phi Beta Kappa inducts 51 UD undergraduates

Chapter also recognizes two students with special awards

This May, 51 University of Delaware undergraduates were inducted into the Alpha of Delaware chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for arts and science disciplines, was founded in 1776.

The Alpha of Delaware chapter was founded at the University of Delaware in 1956.

The names of the inductees are listed in the program available online.

Each year the chapter recognizes student award winners.

The winner of the Herbert Ellis Newman Award was Leah Heisler, an Honors Program student from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who is majoring in Spanish studies and cognitive science with a minor in disability studies. This award recognizes the third-year undergraduate at UD who shows the most outstanding scholarly potential in a Phi Beta Kappa curriculum.

The winner of the Clift and deArmond Award was Cullen Kisner, an Honors Program student from Wyoming, Delaware, who is majoring in biological sciences and Spanish studies. This award recognizes the second-year undergraduate at the University who shows the most outstanding scholarly potential in a Phi Beta Kappa curriculum.
