The University of Delaware will be on winter break from Dec. 19 through Jan. 4. Some facilities will have limited operations. Other schedules are impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Winter break schedules

Days and hours of operation shift for library, bookstore, UDairy Creamery and more

The University of Delaware’s winter break will begin after final examinations end on Friday, Dec. 18. Residence halls will close at 10 p.m. on Dec. 18. University offices will generally be closed for the break, from Monday, Dec. 21, through Monday, Jan. 4.

With Blue Hens departing campus to celebrate the holidays, recharge and prepare for a new year, UD facilities will move to an adjusted schedule, outlined below. Some offices and facilities are usually closed during winter break. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic also has had an impact on schedules.

For students attending Winter Session, residence halls will reopen for check-in from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3. These classes will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4.

Library, Museums and Press

Morris Library will be open weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., until Friday, Dec. 18. Although Morris Library, Old College Gallery, Mechanical Hall Gallery and the Mineralogical Museum will be closed from Dec. 19 through Jan. 3., many Library, Museums and Press online resources are available 24/7 from library.udel.edu.

During Winter Session, Morris Library will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

UD Bookstore

Winter break hours for the Barnes & Noble UD Bookstore are as follows:

  • Through Saturday, Dec 19: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Sunday, Dec. 20: Closed

  • Monday, Dec 21: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

  • Tuesday, Dec 22 through Thursday, Dec 24: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Friday, Dec. 25 through Sunday Dec 27: Closed

  • Monday, Dec 28 through Thursday, Dec. 31: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Friday, Jan 1: Closed

  • Saturday Jan 2: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Sunday, Jan 3: Noon to 5 p.m.

  • Monday, Jan. 4 through Tuesday Jan 5: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  

Winter Session hours at the Bookstore begin Wednesday, Jan 6:

  • Monday through Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Sundays: Closed.

Through Dec. 31: 50% off select sherpa (in store and online)

Through Dec. 8: 50% off clearance (online only)

Through Dec. 10: 25% off total purchase of items with logos (in store and online - code needed CHEER25)

Dec. 14 through Dec. 16: 25% off fleece (sweats), cold weather, outerwear and blankets (in store and online)

Dec. 17 through Dec. 26: 50% off clearance (in store and online)

Development and Alumni Relations

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations can be reached at 302-831-4333 and will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and Thursday, Dec. 31.

Checks and envelopes must be dated/postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2020, for the contribution to process in calendar year 2020.

UD Information Technologies

UDIT units will be closed starting at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18. The IT Support Center will be closed but a third-party technical support team will provide limited support via the IT Support Center phone line 302-831-6000 throughout the break. In addition, the virtual Faculty Commons welcome bar will be closed throughout the break.

The Smith Computing site will be open only by reservation for Winter Session.

UD Ice Arenas

UD Ice Arenas are only open for high performance figure skating and Junior Blue Hens travel hockey. There will not be any events or community programs over the winter break (including public skating) due to COVID-19. 

Parking Services

The Parking Services office has been closed, and will be until further notice, because of the coronavirus pandemic. Working remotely, customer service representatives will be available Monday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Representatives can be reached via email at parking@udel.edu, by leaving voice mail at 302-831-1184, or via Zoom with the meeting ID # 302 831 1184. Parking service representatives will resume remote operations via Zoom on Jan. 4, 2021.

Transportation Services Shuttle

The University shuttle service will run through Dec. 23. From Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, there will be no shuttle service. Starting on Monday, Jan. 4, and continuing through Friday, Feb. 12, shuttles will operate according to the limited holiday schedule, Monday through Friday. One bus will operate along the North-South route and one bus will operate every hour on an East-West route, both beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. Further information will be posted on the Transportation Services webpage.

Spring semester routes will begin Monday, Feb. 15. Spring bus route schedules will be announced in January.

Recreation

The Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob) will be closed starting Saturday Dec. 19. It will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4.

UDairy Creamery

Through Dec. 23, the UDairy Creamery will open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays. Service will be provided via curbside pick up and walk-up window. The Creamery will close from Dec. 24 through Jan. 3, reopening on Jan. 4 at 11 a.m.

University Printing

University Printing is open through Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. While the department will be closed starting Dec. 21 (reopen at 9 a.m. on Jan. 4), the email address — universityprinting@udel.edu  — will be monitored continuously if there are any pressing questions or concerns.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services will be closed from Dec. 19 through Jan. 14. Jan. 15 is an annual medical disaster drill for staff — services will be back to full operation Jan. 19.

Dining Services 

All on-campus dining locations will be closed from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2. Pencader Dining Hall’s express-to-go will reopen for students attending Winter Session, along with the P.O.D. Market on Laird Campus. The first meal at Pencader Dining Hall will be dinner at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, and the Market will reopen at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4. The Dining Services administrative office will close at 5 p.m., Dec. 23,  and will reopen at 8 a.m., Jan. 4.
