Public Meeting on Laird Communications Tower

A plan to ensure continuity for emergency services and other essential communications

University of Delaware officials will hold a public webinar on Thursday, Dec. 10 regarding the Laird Communications Tower, which will provide critical connectivity for everyday mobile use and emergency communications. The new stand-alone tower will replace the communication antennas sitting atop the Christiana Towers.

Representatives from UD will review the plan for taking down the Christiana Towers and explain their goals for the new communications tower. They will be joined by Crown Castle, the nation’s largest provider of shared communications infrastructure, which was selected to build the new tower.

The new tower is expected to be shorter than the height of the Christiana Towers and its antennas. It will be harder to see from multiple locations, thus reducing the visual impact of the current configuration, while providing communications capabilities that include emergency services communications, pager communications, cell phone services, the UD Facilities radio system and WVUD.

The webinar will take place on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. For more information and to register, please visit: http://www.udel.edu/007921.
