Free case adjudication training for University volunteers

Three-part workshop covers several topics related to Title IX, sexual misconduct, non-discrimination

A free, three-part training program is being offered for University of Delaware students, staff and faculty interested in being part of the student conduct process. The training will include an overview of Title IX, the University's sexual misconduct and non-discrimination policies, and relevant topics including:
- power and control
- persuasion and consent
- intimate partner violence
- stalking
- the impact of trauma
- the impact of alcohol on memory and capacity
- working with perpetrators and victims
- disparate treatment
- discriminatory harassment
- prejudice and implicit bias
- all aspects of the adjudication process

The 13-hour program will include presentations, activities, and a case study to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to be involved in the adjudication of cases at the University. Once trained, volunteers will be expected to serve on sanctioning panels and appellate boards approximately three times a semester.

"Each sexual misconduct or non-discrimination case or appeal involving a student is handled by a panel of staff, faculty, and undergraduate or graduate student volunteers, as needed," said Holli Harvey, director of the Office of Student Conduct. "Faculty, staff and student involvement is crucial to our ability to fulfill our responsibilities within these policies, and we're pleased to announce this opportunity for members of the community to learn more and participate."

The training will be facilitated by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, Student Wellness and Health Promotion, and Office of Student Conduct on the following dates and times:
- Friday, Oct. 4, noon to 5 p.m.
- Friday Oct. 18, noon to 5 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 1, 2 to 5 p.m.

Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided. For more information or to register by Sept. 23, please visit https://forms.gle/X2E44h2sSumLAATM8.
