Carla Guerrón Montero, professor of anthropology with joint appointments in Africana studies, Latin American and Iberian studies, and women and gender studies, was a panelist in the 2019 Gretchen Hupfel Symposium: “Immanent Realms: Light, Image, Sound” at the Delaware Contemporary (Wilmington, Delaware, May 18). Her presentation focused on some of the ways in which the arts, science and technology intersect today to create cultural products.

Publications

Heinz-Uwe Haus, professor of theatre, this month published a third edition of his book Awaking '89 - Notes on Culture and Politics (edition lulu, 2019). "This new edition is a timely reminder of one of the most momentous changes in ideological direction of our time. The collapse of communism in Eastern and Central Europe, the reunification of Germany and ultimately the implosion of the Soviet Union two years later reaffirmed both the irrepressibilty of the human quest for freedom and the return of the European project from the  historical detour of communism."writes David Lovell. Haus' collection of essays ,lectures and interviews related to the Peaceful Revolution 30 years ago "display an impressive command of the intricacies of contemporary challenges in Western thought," according to Wolfgang Stegemann. The new edition includes introductory comments by Banu Helvacioglu (Ankara, Turkey), Glyn Hughes (Nikosia, Cyprus), Mihaela Albu (Kraiova, Romania), Michael Kontos (Athens, Greece), Paul Tseng (Taipeh/Taiwan, Republic of China), Guy Stern (Farmington Hill, United States), David Lovell (Canberra, Australia) and Wolfgang Stegemann (Fuerstenberg/Havel, Germany).
