Forging Industry-Academic Partnerships

Creating an innovation ecosystem for research funding

The Delaware Environmental Institute at the University of Delaware will host a seminar to help faculty and others in academia forge better partnerships with industry in a time of increased competition for research grants.

The seminar is titled, "An Innovation Ecosystem for Sustainable Nanotechnology: the NanoEarth Model," and will be hosted by Matt Hull, the associate director of innovation and entrepreneurship for NanoEarth, which is based at Virginia Tech.

The seminar will be from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 in room 467 of the Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Lab.

Increasing competition for limited federal research funding has prompted academic institutions to re-imagine models of industry engagement, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship. Such models are inherently complex, evolve rapidly, and depend heavily on local factors that can vary dramatically from one institution to the next. The seminar is designed to share successes and challenges encountered along this journey, so others can learn how to improve their models while helping others adapt and perfect theirs.

If you would like to join a lunch prior to the seminar, please RSVP to Karen Rodalunas, krod@udel.edu, Delaware Environmental Institute, by Monday, March 18.
