Update: Water service to campus buildings affected
April 02, 2019
Service will be disrupted into April 3
April 2 Update: The water shutdown has been extended another day, with the outage starting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, as a result of a service leak in the work area. Two UD buildings -- George Evans and Raub halls -- are affected. The Willard Hall Education Building will be unaffected by the work tonight.
Water service to some University of Delaware facilities will be interrupted temporarily as part of a city of Newark project to rehabilitate the Main Street water main over the next several months.
In the first phase of the project on Monday and Tuesday, April 1 and 2, water service to three campus buildings – Raub Hall, the George Evans House and the Willard Hall Education Building – will be disrupted between midnight and 7 a.m. Water service to these buildings will be restored each morning by 7 a.m., but building occupants may experience discolored water and/or fluctuating water pressure.
The city will collect and analyze water samples to confirm water quality, and, until water quality is assured, the city is advising occupants in the affected buildings to boil water before consuming it as a precautionary measure.
The water main project, which is part of the Main Street renovation project, has eight phases and will last until August. Each phase may affect select campus buildings.
UD’s Maintenance and Operations is working closely with the city on this project to reduce the total number of affected campus buildings and to limit the impact of these outages on the University community. Where possible, the water flow is being rerouted to backfeed many UD buildings.
