International innovation transfer managers will learn startup development

Christina Pellicane, director of commercialization programs at University of Delaware Horn Entrepreneurship, will present Start-up Business Development” a one-day course at the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) annual meeting, Feb. 10-13, in Austin, Texas.

AUTM is a global association comprised of over 3,000 technology managers and 800 international universities, research facilities and hospitals along with business and government organizations. Pellicane served as the chair of the organizing committee of the course along with three other members who build the session topics and invited guest speakers.

The course will focus on start-ups as the key mechanism through which university researchers can make a societal and economic impact. Pellicane and invited speakers will lead detailed discussions on how to minimize start-up failures and help to develop a pathway to technology transfer through startup team support. Topics will include best practices around facilities, funding, mentors, programs and policies.

At Horn Entrepreneurship, Pellicane facilitates commercialization programs such as the Blue Hen Proof of Concept Program, which provides gap funding and training by supporting various activities in early stages of technology commercialization, and the National Science Foundation I-Corps Site, which provides business training and grants of up to $3,000 for teams interested in assessing the commercial viability of their STEM-based technologies.
