UD winter break schedules

Days/hours of operation shift for library, parking services, UDairy and more

Winter break at the University of Delaware began for students with the end of exams on Saturday, Dec. 14.

University offices generally will be closed from noon, Monday, Dec. 23, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, reopening on Thursday, Jan. 2.

For students attending the five-week Winter Session, residence halls will reopen for check-in from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5. Five-week Winter Session classes begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6.

During this break period, adjusted hours and closings at campus facilities and offices will include:

Library, Museums and Press

Morris Library will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., through Friday, Dec. 20, and from 8 a.m.-noon, on Monday, Dec. 23. It will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1; open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Jan. 2-3; and closed, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4-5. On Monday, Jan. 6, the libraries will resume regular Winter Session hours.

Morris Library Commons will continue to operate as a 24 /7 space, but The Nest will not be offering food service.

Branch libraries will follow the same hours as Morris Library in terms of closing times, but they are closed on weekends.

Old College Gallery, Mechanical Hall Gallery and the Mineralogical Museum are all closed now through Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Hours for the Library, Museums and Press are always available online.  

UD Bookstore

Winter break hours for the Barnes & Noble UD Bookstore follow:

  • Through Friday, Dec 20: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 21: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 22: Noon to 6 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec 23: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25: Closed.
  • Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 26-28: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 29: Noon to 6 p.m.
  • Monday Dec 30: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 31: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 1: Closed.
  • Thursday through Saturday, Jan 2-4: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  
  • Sunday, Jan 5: Noon-6 p.m.

Winter Session hours at the Bookstore begin Monday, Jan 6:

  • Monday through Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sundays: Noon to 6 p.m.

Checks and envelopes must be dated/postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2019, for the contribution to process in calendar year 2019.

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations can be reached at 302-831-4333 and will be staffed from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Dining Services

The first meal for Winter Session will be dinner on Sunday, Jan. 5, at Russell Dining and on Laird campus. Due to renovations beginning at Pencader Dining, dinner on Laird campus will be served in room 115 on the lower level of the Pencader Complex. Dinner will be served 5-7 p.m. Other select on-campus dining locations will reopen for Winter Session on Monday, Jan. 6. More detailed schedules for each dining hall and detailed hours for specific dining locations can be found on Dining Services' website.

The Dining Services administrative office will close at 5 p.m.. Monday, Dec. 23, for the holiday break, and will reopen at 8 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2.

UD Ice Arenas

The Winter Figure Skating Spectacular will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at the Fred Rust Ice Arena. Tickets can be purchased at the UD Box Office and/or the UD Ice Arena.  Tickets are only $5 with a valid UD ID.

Holiday skating sessions at the Fred Rust Ice Arena will be available from Dec. 20 to Jan. 1. Come out and skate on the holiday theme painted ice, featuring a  special light show. The arena will be closed on Dec. 25.

Holiday skating session are scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, Dec. 20: 8-11 p.m.
  • Saturday through Monday,  Dec. 21-Dec. 23:  1-4 p.m. and  7-10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24: 1-4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 25: Closed.
  • Thursday through Friday, Dec. 26-27: 1- 4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 28: 1-4 p.m. and 8- 11 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday, Dec. 29-30: 1-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 31: 1-4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 1: Noon-4 p.m.

Additional information on classes offered at the Ice Arenas can be found on its website. UD faculty and staff can use the coupon code UD STAFF to receive $10 off learn-to-skate or learn-to-play-hockey classes.

Parking Services

Parking Services will close at noon, Monday, Dec. 23, for the holiday break. All online services will be available. The office will reopen at 8 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 2.

Transportation Services Shuttle

For the week beginning on Monday, Dec 16, through Monday, Dec. 23, the UD shuttles will operate according to the limited holiday schedule available on the Transportation Department’s website. There will be no weekend bus service.

Beginning Dec. 24, there will be no University shuttle service.

Starting Thursday, Jan 2, shuttles will operate according to the limited holiday schedule. Sunday, Jan 5, buses will begin the regular weekend routes. Winter Session buses begin Monday, Jan. 6, with the Winter Session Shuttles consisting of all day routes operating on a regular schedule Monday through Friday, with routes ending at midnight. Weekend service will operate Saturdays and Sundays from noon to midnight. One Late Bird shuttle will operate a 70-minute campus loop Monday through Saturday until 2 a.m. Spring semester routes will begin Monday, Feb. 10.

Recreation

Hours at the Carpenter Sports Building (Little Bob) will be

  • Through Friday, Dec. 20: 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21-22: Closed.
  • Monday, Dec. 23: 6 a.m.-1 p.m
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1: Closed.
  • Thursday and Friday, Jan. 2-3: 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4-5: Closed.
  • Monday, jan. 6: Winter Session hours begin.

Student Health Services

Through Dec. 20, Student Health Services is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Student Health will be closed Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21 and 22, and will open from 8 a.m.-noon, on Monday, Dec. 23. Starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, until 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, Student Health Services will be closed.   

On Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, Student Health will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will be closed Saturday, Jan. 4. Twenty-four-hour/seven-day availability resumes at noon on Sunday, Jan 5.

UDairy Creamery

Both Wilmington and Newark Creamery locations will be closed from Dec. 24-Jan. 1, reopening on Thursday, Jan. 2. Both locations will be open on Monday, Dec. 23, for last minute shopping!

The Go Baby Go Café will be closed Dec. 20 through Jan. 5, reopening Monday, Jan 6.   

Athletics

UD’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have games scheduled at the Bob Carpenter Center during the winter break.

Men’s Basketball:

  • Saturday, Dec. 28: UD vs. UNCW, 7 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 30: UD vs. Charleston, 7 p.m.

Women’s Basketball:

  • Sunday, Dec. 29: UD vs. George Mason, 2 p.m.
