Shuttles for Coast Day

UD will offer free transportation between Newark and Lewes on Oct. 7

Free bus transportation is available to Coast Day, the University of Delaware’s celebration of the sea at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes for University students, employees and members of their immediate families.

Organized by the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment (CEOE) and the Delaware Sea Grant College Program, Coast Day is a free event that celebrates Delaware’s coastal resources and UD’s marine research. The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Buses will depart from the Robinson Hall parking lot at the Newark campus at 9:00 a.m. and arrive in Lewes at approximately 11 a.m. They will depart from Lewes at 4:30 p.m. and return to Newark at approximately 6 p.m.

Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made by 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4. To reserve a seat, complete the form at http://bit.ly/2x2Tsbf with the following information: name, UD affiliation, UD email, and cell phone number. A separate form must be submitted for each seat being reserved. Completing the form does not guarantee a seat. Your reservation will be confirmed via an email reply. Please allow up to a week for a reply.

The University’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations and CEOE are generously providing the buses.

About Coast Day

This year’s Coast Day theme, “Science Serving Coastal Communities,” highlights how University of Delaware scientists, staff and students are not only improving the understanding of ocean environments, but also serving local coastal communities.

Coast Day visitors can interact with researchers, tour ships, try hands-on activities and attend presentations on a range of topics.

There will be live music, vendor displays and seafood favorites showcased by local chefs at the Crab Cake Cook-Off and the Seafood Chowder Challenge. The day has great activities for families, but please leave pets at home.

While Coast Day admission and parking are free, vendors will be selling food and other items. There is no ATM on the campus grounds.

For more information, see the Coast Day website or call 302-831-8083.
