UD President Dennis Assanis welcomes students, faculty, staff

Editor's Note: University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis welcomed students, faculty and staff to campus with an email letter on Monday, Aug. 27, in advance of the Twilight Induction ceremony on the The Green. The letter appears below in its entirety.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Welcome to another great year at the University of Delaware! Whether you are new to campus or have been here for years, we all have many reasons to be excited by the journey of learning, discovery and growth that lies ahead.

This is a special year for the University of Delaware, as 2018 marks the 275th anniversary of the institution’s founding roots. We know we have a strong foundation of excellence to stand upon as members of a University community that is defined by a rich legacy of creative thinkers, bold challengers, and persistent innovators. And now, as we welcome yet another class of students to campus – nearly 4,300 strong – I am inspired by the talent, diversity, creativity, and energy that will bring our campus forward as we begin to define the next 275 years ahead. In a very short time, our newest Blue Hens will discover what a truly unique and special place this is.

After a summer of enriching research experiences, challenging internships, engaged scholarship, time spent with loved ones, and perhaps some travel to very dynamic places, many are now returning to a buzzing campus. For me, as president of the University, this is one of the most inspiring moments of the year, filled with anticipation of new classes and programs, creative conversations about the University’s future, and the exploration of purpose-driven ideas to advance our community and our society.

I am excited to welcome our wonderful faculty, staff, students and alumni back to campus over the next several weeks. My wife, Eleni, and I wish you all much success as we come together as a community to challenge ourselves intellectually, grow personally and make new connections between the power of ideas and the promise of purpose.

Best wishes for a rewarding and productive year ahead,

Dennis Assanis
President
