Nov. 29: Social justice coffee hour

Discussion to focus on mass incarceration

A social justice coffee hour for University of Delaware students, faculty and staff will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the East Lounge of Perkins Student Center.

The program, titled “Mass Incarceration: The New Jim Crow,” will focus on the disproportionate number of people of color who are incarcerated in the United States.

Three speakers will give informal, 10-minute talks, followed by small group question and answer sessions, discussions and a call to action. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Speakers will be student Khadijah Daniel, local activist Matt Pillischer and community member Michael “KO” Bartley.

The coffee hour is part of a recurring series of events, each addressing a different topic. For more information, visit the Facebook group.

The coffee hour is co-sponsored by UD’s Center for the Study of Diversity and Office of Equity and Inclusion; the registered student organizations Black Graduate Student Association, Haven, HOLA, UD NAACP and SpeQtrum; and We Stand United.
