CTAL announces Graduate Teaching Assistant Orientation, services
The University of Delaware Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL) offers support for graduate professionalization in teaching, beginning with Graduate Teaching Assistant Orientation to be held from 1-5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 21.
In the increasingly isolated world of teaching, CTAL has built a community centered around teaching in which new graduate TAs will be welcomed into beginning with the orientation, which will be held in Gore Hall and will kick off UD graduate orientation week. Early registration is now open to all new TAs.
The event helps orient TAs to their new professional role and responsibilities at the University and introduces them to effective practices and central aspects of learning and teaching.
Other services provided to graduate students by CTAL include the yearlong Teaching and Learning Conversations (TLC) series, exclusively for graduate students, and the fall UNIV 601: Pedagogy and spring UNIV 600: Learning courses.
Just as Graduate Teaching Assistant Orientation gives TAs the introduction and skill building necessary to confidently move into their new professional role, CTAL’s Graduate TLC series provides graduate students with continuing education through meaningful, focused discussion with peers and mentors. Ideal for graduates beyond their first year, CTAL’s UNIV 600 and 601 courses supplement graduate teaching knowledge through application based course design.
For registration and more information on 2017 Teaching Assistant Orientation, the graduate TLC series, or UNIV 600 and UNIV 601 courses, visit the Grad Student tab on the CTAL website.
