NAILS online balloting

Geological sciences major has two entries in magazine cover contest

A University of Delaware senior geological sciences major has combined her interests in minerals and nail art to reach the finals of a NAILS magazine cover contest.

Celine Cumming, who is president of the University’s co-curricular Geology Club and who completed an apprenticeship and earned a state nail technician license this year, has two images in the annual Cover Tech contest decided by online balloting.

The image that gains the most votes will appear on the cover of the January 2017 issue of NAILS. Voting is open until Monday, Oct. 31.

Cumming collaborated with Sharon Fitzgerald, curator of the University of Delaware’s Mineralogical Museum, in selecting specimens in the collection to serve as inspiration for her nail art looks.

She then brought in Robert Undi, a professional photographer, and her sister Nadia Cumming as a hand model to photograph the looks with the minerals that inspired them.
