Housing occupancy changes

New residence hall spurs occupancy changes for University housing

After several years of planning and construction, the newest residence hall at the University of Delaware will open this fall with 500 spaces for first-year students.

With the opening of the new facility, currently referred to as the South Academy Street Residence Hall, occupancy of the University’s residence halls will change.

For the 2017-18 academic year, the Ray Street complex and the Caesar Rodney residence halls will house upper division students. Thomas McKean and James Smith halls on Laird campus will house first-year students in suite-style rooms.

“We are excited to announce these changes,” said Kathleen Kerr, executive director, Residence Life and Housing. “We will continue to have two vibrant neighborhoods for first-year students while offering a full complement of options for upper division students.”

Changing Caesar Rodney from first-year to upper division housing provides a newer traditional style residence hall on central campus as an option for upper division students. It also allows Residence Life and Housing to accommodate more students with needs on central campus.

Residence Life and Housing will work with campus partners to determine where living learning communities for 2017-18 will be housed.

Complete building information is available for next academic year on the Residence Life and Housing website
