ONECARD REMINDER

UD i-Card to be retired, ONEcard now the only active credential

University of Delaware community members are encouraged to make sure they are “good to go” as the new ONEcard will be the only official UD ID credential on campus when the older i-Card format is retired on Monday, July 4.

Krzysztof Bakowski, assistant director of computing operations for Facilities, Real Estate and Auxiliary Services, has announced the upcoming completion of the ONEcard rollout that began early in 2015.

As of July 4, the ONEcard will be the only official UD ID card, and it will replace all current and older versions of the ID card.

The ONEcard will automatically have any privileges and accesses that are already present on the existing i-card. It will also continue to incorporate the traditional magnetic stripe, for locations and services that have not yet been converted to contactless.

For those who are already carrying a ONEcard, no further action is necessary. Most students, faculty and staff members have already upgraded to the ONEcard.

Anyone who is still carrying an older card that is not a ONEcard should visit the ID Card Office in the Student Services Building to pick up their new card. Any older versions of the ID card will stop working on July 4.

As UD completes the final phase of the “ONEcard – Good to Go” campaign, the ID Card Office reminds the community that safe handling of the ONEcard is important. Because the new cards contain a computer chip, they are more susceptible to damage from misuse and temperature extremes.

Following are tips to keep the ONEcard working properly:

  • Do not leave the ONEcard in a vehicle, or let it go through the laundry – high temperatures will warp the card and damage the chip.
  • Do not hole-punch the ONEcard – the contactless capabilities will be damaged.
  • Do not bend or twist the ONEcard.
  • Consider using a plastic badgeholder – they are available at nominal cost from the ID Office and the UD Barnes and Noble Bookstore, as well as many other sources.

University policy is to replace failing ONEcards with no charge when the failure is due to normal wear and tear or defective manufacture. However, replacement fees will be in effect when card damage is caused by misuse, careless handling or deliberate damage.

The ID Card Office is located in the Student Services Building on Lovett Avenue, and can be reached at 302-831-CARD (2273). For more information, visit the website
