Social Justice Peer Educators

The Social Justice Peer Educators (SJPEs) program is a peer-to-peer social justice program and paid leadership opportunity for students. The opportunity includes the training of student leaders who are passionate about social justice to facilitate peer-led workshops on identity, social justice and creating inclusive and just environments on campus. Applications are accepted during the spring semester for the following academic year.

One of the most important things I have learned through this program is how to be an accomplice and strive for social justice in every aspect of life. I have learned that to just discuss these uncomfortable topics is not enough, but to actually enact change, changes must be made frequently no matter how small.

Affinity-Based Leadership Councils

Are you involved in one of our affinity-based registered student organizations (RSOs) and looking to make an even larger impact? Your RSO can join one of our leadership councils! These groups advocate for the needs and interests of minoritized communities while building community and collaboration.

Asian, Pacific Islander and Desi American (APIDA) Leadership Council

The Asian, Pacific Islander and Desi American Leadership Council was originally proposed in Fall 2017; however, full implementation of the council began in Fall 2018 under the guidance of Student Diversity & Inclusion. Student Diversity & Inclusion staff advise the APIDA Leadership Council.

Members of the APIDA Council:

LGBTQ+ Leadership Council

The LGBTQ+ Leadership Council was proposed in May 2017 to represent the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and to bring together representatives from relevant LGBTQ+ student organizations on campus. The council met officially for the first time in September 2017, advised by Student Diversity & Inclusion.

Members of the LGBTQ+ Leadership Council:

Latinx Hispanic Leadership Council

The Latinx Hispanic Leadership Council was originally proposed in October 2016 by the Vice President of University Affairs for the Student Government Association (SGA). The council met for the first time in November 2017, advised by Student Diversity & Inclusion.

Members of the Latinx Leadership Council:

Student Diversity & Inclusion is part of the Office of Institutional Equity and the Division of Student Life, which advances equity and inclusion, deepens student learning and drives holistic development through education, experiences and communities.
