About Us
We aim to provide a safe space for students to present their work. We encourage the audience to ask questions and make suggestions to the speaker, giving the speaker a chance to get input on their research or presentation style from students not in their research group. During each presentation, we choose a problem or mechanism to work through in small groups on the board. Over the summer, we have a synthesis competition, where we divide into groups of four-to-six people working on a synthesis to a common natural product. At the end of the summer, each group presents their proposed route.
What We Do
Each week, we allow two members of the club to present a short talk (15-20 minutes) on either their research or a topic of choice (this is scheduled out at the beginning of the semester). This allows the member to build up confidence in presenting chemistry-related topics to their peers in a casual setting. The other members of the club are encouraged to ask questions to help the speaker think critically about their presentation or give suggestions if the speaker is stuck on a certain issue.
Why Join
By providing students the opportunity to present their research to their peers, our members get to improve their public speaking abilities. As an audience member, you are encouraged to ask questions, forcing you to be thinking deeply about other people’s chemistry. When the audience asks a question, the speakers have to think critically on their feet in order to answer. All of these skills help our members throughout their graduate careers, such as candidacy exams, and are also helpful for job interviews and in our future jobs.

About Us
The School of Marine Science and Policy at the University of Delaware has significant gender disparity in the graduate cohort and faculty/staff ― particularly in the physical and geography sectors. Because of this, women-identifying members face challenges, including gender biases, potential harassment and under-representation. Having a SWMS chapter at UD can provide a safe and supportive environment where these female scientists and students can share their concerns, build networking and foster a sense of belonging in the marine science communities.
What We Do
- Host monthly student seminars for female students and beyond to showcase women scientists' research and improve their communication skills.
- Fun ― community-building activities such as movies or field trips led by women in the marine science workforce (oyster hatcheries, aquarium research, etc.) for UD SWMS members to connect with each other and foster a sense of belonging.
- Create more professional development opportunities including coding workshops, writing workshops and career in ocean for women workshops for members and students. The main goal of SWMS is to create more opportunities for students within the field.
Why Join
The events hosted by SWMS will be geared toward raising awareness of marine science and the diversity of women in marine science. This organization will thereby bring educational opportunities to the UD community and provide a range of perspectives on STEM and STEM education that will more broadly benefit students, staff and faculty at UD. We hope to instill confidence in younger scientists and provide a support network for those considering marine science, or earth sciences more broadly. Members will benefit from having this network and by becoming more aware of the diversity of research areas and life experiences their peers have.

About Us
The Graduate Student Government creates a forum for graduate student advocacy while acting as a conduit between students, faculty and administration at the University of Delaware. The GSG supports campus-wide activities facilitating graduate student professionalism and collegiality.
The GSG seeks to influence the course of the University through representation on University committees by expressing the views of the graduate student body to the administration and by issuing statements of our position to the media.
The GSG’s primary concern is with improving the academic and non-academic experience of the University’s graduate student population.
What We Do
The Graduate Student Government plays a critical role in advocating for the needs and rights of graduate students by identifying and soliciting student concerns, engaging in conversation with the University’s administration and providing student representatives to serve on various committees.
The organization also facilitates the growth and development of a sense of community within the graduate student population.
Why Join
Members of the Graduate Student Government benefit from membership by gaining experience in leadership and civic engagement while also getting an opportunity to engage with the graduate student population as a whole. GSG members have the opportunity to network at high levels of University administration, craft legislation that might later influence University policy and engage in outreach and advocacy.
Membership Requirements
- Every UD graduate student is automatically a member of the GSG.
- Any graduate student can participate in departmental elections to become a member of the senate.
- Participation in committees is also possible as a member-at-large.

About Us
The Queer and Trans Graduate Student Union is a collective of LGBTQ+ graduate students working to build a vibrant, affirming, and supportive community at the University of Delaware. We provide spaces where queer and trans graduate students can connect across disciplines, share experiences, and celebrate identities. Our organization is both an activist and social organization: we cultivate joy and belonging while also advocating for equity, representation, and inclusive policies on campus. By centering queer and trans voices, we strive to make graduate life more visible, sustainable, and empowering for all of our members.
What We Do
- Host social events that bring queer and trans graduate students together for connection and community.
- Organize workshops, panels, and discussions on issues affecting LGBTQ+ students in higher education.
- Advocate for inclusive policies and resources at the University of Delaware.
- Partner with campus and local organizations to strengthen queer and trans visibility and support.
- Provide peer support, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
