Academic Support for Current Graduate Students
As a graduate student at the University of Delaware, you have support from the day you enroll through graduation and beyond. Along with academic advising and the research, health and wellness resources available to you, the Graduate College serves as a dedicated link to the University, focused on issues specific to graduate students. You can turn to the Graduate College for help understanding University or department policies, navigating changes to your academic status, getting confidential guidance on personal or academic concerns, and understanding what graduate programs expect beyond coursework.
Throughout your graduate program, you will need to follow certain procedures to stay on track toward your degree, as well as policies you should know along the way. Sometimes graduate students feel that University policies aren't being followed correctly or fairly.
If you suspect a policy issue, we encourage you to first talk openly with your advisor, program director, department chair or dean's office, as addressing it early can prevent it from becoming more serious. If you're not sure how to approach that conversation, Student Advocacy & Support or the Graduate College can offer guidance.
International Graduate Student Forms
Forms that are specific to international students are housed on the Office for International Students and Scholars webpage. Questions regarding these forms should be addressed to Office for International Students and Scholars at 302-831-2115.
If you think policies are not being followed:
Sometimes graduate students believe a University policy or procedure was ignored, or applied unfairly. Common examples include disputes over grades, being dismissed from a program and research misconduct. Formal processes exist for each.
The first step is usually to talk directly with your advisor, program director, department chair or the dean's office. Raising a concern early often keeps a small problem from growing into a bigger one — a grading error, for instance, can affect your academic standing. If you'd like help preparing for that conversation, Student Advocacy & Support or staff in the Graduate College can advise you.
