Jennifer Horney, professor and founding director of the Epidemiology program in the College of Health Sciences, was among 15 people included in the Science and Technology section of influential Delawareans. She joined other UD faculty on the science and tech list, including Charles Riordan, Mary Dozier and Norman Wagner.

The article noted Horney’s research focuses on the impacts of natural disasters on public health, as well as the ties between disaster planning and the actions leaders, communities and individuals take to prepare, respond and recover. She has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, CNN and The Daily Beast. Previously, she was part of a team who responded to Hurricanes Katrina, Irene and Harvey. She also trained rapid response teams around the world to respond to the H1N1 virus.

Richard Killingsworth, an associate professor in the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition, was among 26 people named to the most influential sports list. He also is director of the Center for Public Private Partnerships in Health and the Appoquinimink High wrestling coach.

The News Journal article noted Killingsworth’s career stints with the Delaware Division of Public Health, as well as the Centers for Disease Control. He authored the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s Returning to Wrestling guidelines which established protocols for the sport to return safely to competition during COVID-19.
