College of Education and Human Development to host equity symposium May 16
On May 16, the University of Delaware Center for Excellence and Equity in Teacher Preparation (CEETP), housed within the College of Education and Human Development, will host an equity symposium for UD education faculty, staff, graduate students and Delaware educators. The interactive symposium will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in North Atrium on UD’s STAR Campus.
The event will provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities for equity initiatives in the field of education, offering practical strategies to sustain and advance equity-driven work. Participants will gain tools to develop successful initiatives, foster meaningful change and adapt to shifting policies and societal dynamics.
The symposium will also allow participants to engage with Ernest Blackwell, founder of Equity and Beyond, which collaborates with organizations to build a culture of trust, belonging and interdependence through relationship-based, strategic equity planning and implementation.
“This symposium is a direct response to the insights shared by UD students last spring,” said Jamie Bailey, student recruiter for teacher preparation programs in CEETP and event organizer. “They want to see real, sustained equity work happening on campus and in their future classrooms. We’re creating space for faculty and staff to reflect, learn and take action so we can better support all students and prepare the next generation of educators.”
