Celebrate the closing of this powerful, community-engaged exhibition
The Department of Art and Design and the Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) invite you to a special evening celebrating the exhibition "MINE: What is Ours in the Wake of Extraction." The free event includes a guided tour of the exhibition by co-curators Amanda Zehnder and Jon Cox, and a wine and cheese reception where guests can reflect on the work and connect with others who are passionate about environmental justice and sustainability.
The exhibition spotlighted the devastating impacts of illegal gold mining in the Peruvian Amazon through participatory, arts-based storytelling. Featuring powerful artwork by the Harakbut Indigenous community and displays on conflict minerals, "MINE" challenged viewers to consider the global consequences of extractive industries.
With more than 300 visitors sharing their experiences through a survey, "MINE" inspired not just awareness, but action. The impact was clear: More than three-fourths of visitors rated the exhibition “excellent,” reported increased understanding of gold mining’s environment toll, gained insight into Indigenous struggles in the Amazon and left motivated to take action.
Come celebrate the success of this community-engaged exhibition and explore what’s next in the intersection of art, activism and global justice.
