Education policy colloquium

UD’s College of Education and Human Development hosts research and evaluation professor Mimi Engel

Join the University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development for a colloquium with Mimi Engel, associate professor and program chair of the research and evaluation methodology program in the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education, on Friday, Nov. 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in room 207 of the Willard Hall Education Building.

Engel will share her research, which centers on how policies and programs affect children’s developmental outcomes and learning opportunities. Her research provides new information about the contexts, policies, programs and administrative factors that could improve student outcomes, particularly for students from historically underrepresented groups. She focuses on policies that affect pre-K-12 teachers, teacher labor markets and early childhood education, especially kindergarten, mathematics teaching and learning and other areas. Engel’s interest in studying how schools and other contexts affect students stems from her training in human development, social policy and social work.

Engel uses quantitative and qualitative methods to conduct program evaluations and analyses investigating issues in education policy. She has conducted several studies in the Chicago Public Schools and has worked at the Consortium on Chicago School Research. She also uses large-scale national databases in her research.

Her publications include peer-reviewed articles in Educational Researcher, American Educational Research Journal, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, the Journal of Education Finance and Policy, Developmental Psychology and Educational Administration Quarterly, among others.

The colloquium is free and open to all UD community members.
