Editor's note: Jan. 10, 2023 -- Newark Police have obtained arrest warrants for two suspects. Cameron Noel, 21, of Newark, has been taken into custody and charged with several counts including first degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. He has been committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. Newark Police are looking for a second suspect, Clay Tannen, 19, of Newark. UPDATE: Clay Tannen turned himself in to Newark Police on Jan. 11, was charged and subsequently committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. The stolen vechicle has been recovered.

Newark Police are investigating residential burglaries that occurred early this week on East Park Place and on South Chapel Street in Newark.

On the morning of Sunday, Jan. 1, Newark Police responded to a report of an overnight burglary at a house in the unit block of East Park Place. The resident told officers that they discovered property missing from their unlocked residence. There was no forced entry, and no one was home at the time the burglary occurred, which was determined to be between 4:30 and 5 a.m.

During the investigation, officers contacted the resident of another house on the block who said that personal property, including the resident’s vehicle and vehicle key, was stolen from the residence. The resident was home at the time but was not confronted by the suspect or suspects. There was no forced entry to the residence. The stolen vehicle, a 2011 silver Hyundai Sonata with Delaware tag 48930, has not been recovered.

Newark Police also received a call reporting a burglary from a residence in the 100 block of South Chapel Street. This burglary occurred sometime after 1 a.m., and personal property was removed from the residence. The resident was home at the time of the burglary but was not confronted. There were no signs of forced entry.

The investigation into these incidents and their possible connection, if any, has been turned over to the Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.

Newark Police remind everyone to lock the doors to their residence at all times and to call police to report suspicious activity.
