The University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will offer more than 30 free live-online mini-courses for adults 50 and over, taking place Jan. 16-26.
The January Explorations series is presented by OLLI’s volunteer instructors and covers topics from art, nature and history to current affairs, travel, literature and healthcare. The online series is free and open to the public. OLLI membership is not required.
“We are delighted to invite the public to experience examples of the breadth of OLLI’s courses and the excellence of our instructors,” said Karen Asenavage Loptes, UD OLLI director. “Our OLLI members know that learning is just one part of an enriching OLLI experience that also includes social events, extracurricular activities and travel opportunities.”
January presentations include “The Magic of the Eclipse,” discussing how eclipses are represented in history and literature, and previewing the total solar eclipse to be visible from Texas to Vermont in April, led by Gary Letcher, who has witnessed three total solar eclipses.
In “It’s Not Where You Start: Great Songs from Broadway Flops,” veteran instructor and Broadway enthusiast Tom Powderly explores beautiful songs composed for otherwise forgettable shows.
Courses on life skills and aging include “Ethics of End of Life Care,” presented by Dr. Michael Salvatore, a retired pulmonology and critical care physician who has also directed a palliative care team.
These Zoom-based courses are free, but registration is required.
In addition to January Explorations, OLLI offers over 300 courses each spring and fall in Dover, Lewes, Ocean View, Wilmington and online. Spring registration begins Jan. 4, and classes start Feb. 5.
