Newark Police are now seeking two Wilmington women in connection with the incident early Saturday, April 22, when shots were fired in the area of East Main Street in Newark. No one was injured in the incident.

At about 12:31 a.m., Newark Police were in the 100 block of East Main Street when an officer heard gunshots being fired. Officers responded to the area of 174 East Main St. and observed a group of people. Witnesses reported that the person who fired the gun fled the area in a vehicle, and officers stopped the vehicle minutes later.

The vehicle was operated by Khadijah Brown, 30, of Wilmington, who was its sole occupant. No firearm was located in the vehicle, and she was later released.

Upon further investigation, shell casings were located on the ground at the scene, and a review of surveillance video and witness interviews determined that Brown and another woman, later identified as Tajarra Whyte, 22, of Wilmington, engaged in an argument with other persons in the area. Police said Whyte produced a handgun and began to fire it into the air. Whyte then fled in the vehicle with Brown, and, prior to police contact, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Newark Police have obtained arrest warrants for both Brown and Whyte for this incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Newark Police Cpl. D. Burgess at 302-366-7100, ext. 3473 or dburgess@newark.de.us. Additional methods of contacting Newark Police and information about reward information may be found on this Newark Police site.
