Sanford (Sandy) Robbins, producing artistic director of the Resident Ensemble Players (REP), founder and director of the Professional Theatre Training Program and chairperson of the Department of Theatre, has announced that he will retire after the upcoming academic year on Aug. 31, 2022, after 32 years at UD. John Pelesko, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said, “Sandy leaves behind a formidable career—both at UD and throughout the wider theatre community. I want to take this opportunity to recognize Sandy and thank him for the incredible impression he has left at UD and the many lives he touched through his work and leadership. In his varied roles – as mentor, instructor and director – he has always remained a steadfast champion of the arts.”
Publications
In a follow-up to his 1986 book The Last Little Citadel: American High Schools since 1940, published by Houghton Mifflin, Robert Hampel, professor in the School of Education, shares his recollections and second thoughts in a chapter entitled "Renovations in the Citadel," appearing in New Interpretations of the History of American High Schools, edited by Kyle Steele and scheduled to be published by Palgrave Macmillan in September 2021.
The results of the VA Patient Experience Academy, a partnership between the Wilmington VA Medical Center (W VAMC) and UD’s Department of Hospitality and Sport Business Management at the Lerner College of Business & Economics, has been published in the Journal of Patient Experience. This project, helmed by Ali Poorani, associate professor of hospitality business management, and Vincent Kane, W VMAC director, focused on employee training and provided tools to enhance the veterans’ experience. The results were measured on three levels: learning outcomes, application of training to practice and the veterans’ satisfaction scores. Scores in all three areas showed significant improvements.
