Publications

Margaret Stetz, Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women's Studies and professor of humanities, has an essay in the new issue of the online Open Access literary magazine, Coffin Bell: A Journal of Dark Literature. Her essay, "A Haunted War: The Return of The Return of the Soldier," examines the continuing legacy, both in fiction and in film, of a 1918 novel by the British modernist writer, Rebecca West. Presentations

Farley Grubb, professor of economics in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, presented his paper “What was the Continental Dollar, 1775-1779? What did Contemporaries Think It Was and How Was the Public Informed About it?” at the Pennsylvania Historical Association annual conference, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Oct. 19, 2019.

Honors

Alexander Selimov, professor of Spanish and Latin American studies, won the silver medal in the IV Eurasian Literary Festival that took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 3, 2019. Finalists from 52 countries participated in the final round of this prestigious literary competition.

Adrienne Lucas, associate professor of economics in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, has been elected by the Board of Directors of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) as a research associate in the NBER program on children. This distinction recognizes her as one of the top economists in her field.  As a research associate, Lucas will be actively engaged with a community of elite scholars whose research is at the forefront of economic, health, and education issues impacting children. NBER is widely recognized as the nation’s leading nonprofit economic research organization.

Thomas Eisenberg, assistant professor of economics in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, was awarded a Young Economists' Essay Award at the 2019 European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE) conference in Barcelona, Spain, this fall. This award is given to three papers from approximately a hundred entries by a selection committee including several prominent professors of industrial organization from both the U.S. and Europe. Eisenberg won the award for most significant policy contribution for his research paper “Regulatory Distortions and Capacity Investment: The Case of China’s Coal Power Industry.”

New initiatives

The Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (CEEE) at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics has partnered with the band Gooding, to bring lessons in financial literacy to Delaware schools through musical performances. Gooding is a group of musicians who tour the country performing free concerts to promote goal setting and good financial habits for students through the financial literacy education group that they created called Funding the Future. The CEEE was able to arrange for Funding the Future's Financial Literacy Tour to perform at St. Georges Technical High in Middletown, Delaware, on Oct. 16, 2019. Through partnerships and programming like this, the CEEE works tirelessly to promote its mission to see students graduate as informed and productive citizens, contributing to their own prosperity and to the well-being of the world.
