Community Music School announces spring offerings
The University of Delaware Community Music School (UDCMS), the outreach program of the Department of Music that has offered a wide variety of music instruction options to people of all ages for more than 30 years, has a variety of programs available. The spring semester begins in early February.
Continuing this spring after a great start this fall is the Delaware Youth Wind Ensemble, directed by Lauren Reynolds, assistant professor. This is a great opportunity for outstanding high school musicians from the greater Delaware area to rehearse and perform exciting and high-quality wind band literature.
UDCMS will offer private study instruction for children, teens and adults on more than 20 instruments. Musical instruction is available for children as young as 4 years old in Suzuki programming.
Music For Young Minds, an early childhood music program filling up fast this semester, provides music instruction for children from birth through age 6. Group classes offered include Suzuki guitar, violin and piano for students ages 4-12, including private and group lessons (waitlist may apply, inquire for details); Guitar Ensemble; Chamber Ensemble; and three different Children's Choirs, as well as the Neuro Notes Parkinson's Choir.
All registered UDCMS students are eligible to join free Saturday music theory classes that are also open for a nominal fee to non-UDCMS students.
Instruction at UDCMS is affordable, and the school offers several different kinds of discounts. There are opportunities for several recitals during the year, as well as performance opportunities with collegiate musical groups and at various off-campus venues.
