The University of Delaware Writing Center will celebrate faculty members from across campus with a variety of events during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10.

On Tuesday, May 7, an open house and tutor panel will be held from 2-4 p.m. in Room 016 Memorial Hall, where visitors can see the center’s newly redesigned space, enjoy appetizers and meet the staff. From 3-3:30 p.m., a panel of writing tutors and oral communication consultants will be available to answer questions about their experiences in the Writing Center.

The panel will offer faculty the opportunity to hear tutors’ insights into how student writers approach the writing process, what kind of feedback tutors offer writers and what kinds of writing assignments students seem to either struggle with or thrive on. A raffle will be held for various prizes.

On Wednesday, May 8, the center will host a Coffee Drop-In from 9-11 a.m., with complimentary coffee and breakfast items, also in room 016 of Memorial Hall. Writing center professional staff, tutors and oral communication consultants will be available to chat.

Throughout the week, Writing to Learn Awards will recognize faculty members for excellent writing pedagogy. Those who have effectively helped students learn new genres of writing essential to their academic or professional field will be featured on the Writing Center’s social media (@udwritingcenter on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook).

Also during the week, positive teaching moments will be showcased in the Teaching and Tutoring Gallery, posted on the center’s walls and in social media. In these postings, Writing Center tutors and oral communication consultants reflect on specific teachers and teaching strategies that have positively influenced their tutoring style.
