Water Quality Internship Available for Summer 2019

Undergraduate students interested in environmental solutions must apply by May 1

University of Delaware undergraduate students who are interested in environmental solutions are invited to apply for a paid summer research internship. The long-term goal of the project is to design solutions to protect water from nutrient pollution, which can cause ecologically damaging harmful algal blooms. In summer 2019, project will focus on the potential of biochar made from poultry litter to function as a slow-release, eco-friendly fertilizer.

The application deadline is May 1, 2019.

Faculty mentors for the project are Jules Bruck from the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences and Julia Maresca from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Bruck and Maresca are looking for a student with some chemistry background; students from multiple majors may apply. The internship dates are June 10 – August 16, 2019.

To apply, students should prepare a letter of interest and a resume, and send to Yolanda Williams-Bey at the Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN). One letter of reference from a faculty member is also required and should be sent by email directly to Williams-Bey. All application materials are due May 1, 2019.
