Presentations
Trevor A. Dawes, vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian, presented on the topic of leading through times of change at the Minnesota Institute for Early Career Librarians from Traditionally Underrepresented Groups on July 17, 2018. Hosted by the University of Minnesota Libraries, the program focuses on the development of library leaders from diverse backgrounds. Several years ago, Dawes was a participant.
Rudi Matthee, John and Dorothy Munroe Distinguished Professor of History, presented a paper “Intellectual and Artistic Activity at a Stationary Court: Shah Sulayman I (r. 1666-94) and the Life of the Mind,” at a two-day workshop titled “The Safavid Multi-text Manuscript 1984.463 (Harvard University, Sackler Museum)—Its Content and Context,” held at the University of Hamburg, Germany, on June 25-26. 2018.
UD was the site of the 15th International Conference for Mesoscopic Methods in Engineering and Science (ICMMES 2018), held July 9-13, 2018. Local organizers of this year's conference were Lian-Ping Wang, a professor of mechanical engineering at UD, and William Matthaeus, Unidel Professor of Physics and Astronomy at UD. Around 53 participants registered for this year's conference, which featured four short-course lectures, seven invited talks and 36 regular talks covering theory, implementations and applications of mesoscopic simulation methods. Mesoscopic methods refer to numerical methods based on statistical descriptions of molecular motion, thus combining the details of molecular interaction physics and relatively good computational efficiency.
